Télécom Saint-Etienne and Télécom Physique Strasbourg (TPS) have been working together for 10 years to organize the Spring Photonics Week.

It’s been 10 years since Télécom Saint-Etienne and Télécom Physique Strasbourg (TPS) joined forces for the Spring Photonics Week. The event takes place over two one-week periods. During the first week, TPS photonics students were welcomed in Saint-Etienne, then for the second week, a few months later, TSE photonics students came to Strasbourg. During these two weeks, they were able to work in groups on projects, but they were also able to enjoy the city, with visits, activities and outings of course!

The week in Saint-Etienne :

Testimonials from Télécom Saint-Etienne students who took part in the event:

For the week in Saint-Etienne, we had the chance to get up close and personal with the world of research, with various presentations on lase and the physical processes involved in their use, as well as a number of applications to give us a good idea of the possibilities offered by the photonics world.
We also had the opportunity to visit the Hubert Curien laboratory and talk to researchers about current scientific developments and research issues.

It was also an opportunity to meet our fellow students from Strasbourg who are studying optics and photonics. This moment of exchange enabled us to compare our knowledge and backgrounds, but also to realize that, coming from two totally different environments, the end result is the same.

The week in Strasbourg :

Testimonials from Télécom Saint-Etienne students who took part in the event:

This week’s objective was to carry out a CAD (Computer Aided Design) project using Code V or LightTools software. This project was carried out in teams of 2, with one member of TSE and one member of TPS.

It was quite a challenging experience, as we don’t have the same background as the people from Strasbourg. What’s more, the subjects were proposed by researchers to help them with their research. In the end, we had to give a presentation and write a scientific report on the project. This enabled me to gain in scientific rigor and familiarize myself with tools like canva (for presentations) and Latex (for reports).

What’s more, we bonded well with our friends from Strasbourg and went to bars, played sports together and even had a barbecue organized by their school.
This experience was very enriching for us both socially and academically
